How has electrical safety evolved since the Grenfell Tower disaster?

At the recent Powered On Live event, Martyn Allen, Technology Director at Electrical Safety First, detailed the importance of strong regulation, robust testing and buying legitimate products to prevent electrical fires.

Martyn Allen spoke on June 15, almost exactly five years since the Grenfell Tower disaster sparked a conversation on fire safety. While that incident involved a faulty fridge-freezer and cladding that failed fire safety tests, it highlighted the importance of remaining vigilant.

During his discussion at Powered On Live, Allen discussed how electricity was the cause of 50% of fires in the UK, and what steps are being taken to ensure that we don’t see a repeat of the Grenfell Tower disaster. He also detailed the need for those working in the electrical sector to stay on top of the latest regulations, as well as stay up to date with what products are safe and which have been recalled.
