Critical Power app now available

Electrical Review Logo

The CRITICALPwRCalc is designed to help end users, contractors and electrical engineers get a clear perspective of projected and anticipated  energy usage, plus an accurate calculation of load sizes and characteristics before purchasing strategic equipment – such as UPS (uninterruptible power supplies), generators and PDUs (power distribution units).

With CRITICALPwRCalc, users can easily add Critical Power Supplies to their Contacts list by tapping the ‘yes’ key, plus they can call the company, book a free site survey, ‘Tell a friend’ and access the power calculator and cost calculator using simple ‘one-tap’ technology.

The power calculator allows conversion of the following:
Kilowatts (kW) to Kilovolt Amps (kVA) kVA into kW kW into Horse Power (HP) HP into kVA kW into BTU Amperes UPS Power Generator Calculator

There is a useful Amperes calculator included, which is important as nameplates of equipment from different manufacturers often display ratings differently, some in Amps, some in Watts and the calculator makes it easy to achieve an accurate picture of real power alongside apparent power and the power factor (the ratio of real power to apparent power). Understanding power factor is important for efficiency. If the ratio between the two is great, then power factor correction can be applied to the installation. The closer to unity power factor is, the more efficiently the system will run. A UPS power calculator also enables accurate calculation of UPS load sizes.

It is important for users to know and understand the differences between kW and kVA in power protection scenarios and be able to convert from one to the other. UPS ratings are generally presented in kVA while generator ratings are usually in kW. Some manufacturers stray from the norm, which can cause confusion. CRITICALPwRCalc provides a quick and easy-to-use aid to accurate power calculations.

CRITICALPwRCalc is free and anyone wishing to download it can do so by visiting: http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/from-the-app-store/
