Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) specialists, Borri, has been awarded a prestigious contract from Portsmouth City Council.
Acting as principle contractor and working in partnership with a leading UK data centre contractor, Sheffield-based Borri will provide a full turnkey design and build package for a completely new data centre facility. The development is expected to take up to 16 weeks with the new facility fully operational by summer 2013.
Due to play a vital role in the security of the new data centre will be two Borri B9000 160kVA/144kW UPS systems to be operated in a 2N configuration with diverse power supplies supporting the data centre IT load for complete redundancy at all times, and removing any single points of failure.
The new data centre will host 33 racks initially and will have a 2N electrical design throughout the data centre. For added protection, localised rackmount static switches will be put in place for all legacy equipment.

Certified by TÜV NORD Cert as one of the most efficient and resilient transformer based UPS systems on the market, Borri’s B9000 UPS units have a negligible effect on the mains supply as they come with IGBT (Isolated Gate Bipolar Transistor) rectifiers as standard, which provide less than three percent harmonic distortion.
This efficiency saving can have huge financial benefits as the generator can be downsized by as much as 50%.
