ABB’s former Commerce Street site has relocated to Altens to become its UK base for oil and gas, marine and turbocharger service and spare parts.

In this new facility ABB will also strengthen its Consultancy Organisation. This organisation specialises in areas such as customer process improvement, alarm handling and functional safety management. ABB’s operation in Aberdeen now comprises over 100 engineers, consultants and support staff and has plans to recruit significantly in 2012 and beyond.

UK country service organisation (CSO) manager Mike Crawford said: “The aim of the new office is to fully integrate ABB’s operation on one site to support the growing demand for service in Aberdeen. This is ABB’s on-going commitment to support the oil and gas industry in its endeavour to help our customers achieve operational excellence and maximise production from new and mature installations”.

ABB Group has recently announced its strategy for the 2011-2015 period which includes improvements to its service offering. The group has set an ambitious goal to increase service from around 17% of total Group revenues in 2010 to 20-25% by the year 2015.

Crawford continued: “We need to ensure we have the right people and the right staffing levels to meet this growth plan and a big focus for us here in Aberdeen will be on delivering more and new value to our customers and providing them with a more comprehensive portfolio of local services.

ABB’s UK operation has twelve sites across the UK and Ireland and includes varied industries such as oil and gas, pulp and paper, metals and minerals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, marine and utilities.
