Playing it cool at the Savoy

Electrical Review Logo

Megaman has supplied its MR16 LED lamps to the prestigious Savoy Hotel in London for a refurbishment of the corridors. In December 2007, the hotel was closed to undergo a £220m refit and a new energy-efficient system that reduced the hotel’s reliance on the national electricity grid by approximately 20% and increased reuse and recycling.

Following the refurbishment, the corridors were getting very warm despite the fact that there was no heating in that area. It soon became clear that it was the lighting causing the problem.

Mark Gee, from specialist lighting supplier Lamp Spec, was approached to help solve the problem and he suggested replacing the 35W Halogen MR16’s with Megaman’s 6W MR16 2400K LED lamps. Annual savings 142kw per year will be achieved and some 77,000 Kg’s of CO2, with a monetary saving of £20K on energy consumption following the lamp changeover.
