Shepherd Engineering Services (SES), has recently completed the mechanical & electrical (M&E) installation on two new schools in Guildford – Pond Meadow and Christ's College.
Both buildings use bold designs from award winning architects, and heat recovery and design features to provide a sustainable, safe and inspirational environment for pupils.
The total design & build cost for both schools was £24.6m, with £5m spent on the installation of heating, lighting, ventilation, water supply, gas, BMS, fire alarms, power and security.
Working with main contractor, Wates Construction, SES started the 70 week project in September 2007.
Derek Joiner, divisional dDirector for London & South East at SES said, "Our overall strategy is to forge deeper, stronger partnerships with fewer clients and this is something we feel we have achieved with Wates Construction. We've worked on a variety of projects together over the last few years – the recently completed Headrow retail development in Leeds, and The Guildhall in London in 2006. Going forward, we have a number of projects in the pipeline that we are looking at jointly.
"However, this is the first time we've worked with Wates on an educational project and, in little over a year, we're proud to have provided the local Guildford community with two brand new schools suitable for accommodating over 800 children."
SES is currently working on a number of educational projects throughout the UK, including BSF schools in the Nottingham, Leeds, York and Bradford areas and, Universities in Reading, Warwick, Worcester, Newcastle, Teesside and York.
