EIC offers addiction support

The Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) is supporting people in the industry struggling with addiction with its Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), funded by the powerLottery.

Through EAP, the charity is able to help people within the electrical sector who are facing addictions or are living with a co-occurring disorder on their path to recovery by offering support services, including complex case management, financial and practical assistance and counselling.

One recent example of how EIC was able to assist an industry colleague in his hour of need was Ian Field, who was struggling with his love addiction which led to a deterioration in his mental health.

Ian contacted the charity for help as he was experiencing a deterioration in a personal relationship, feeling as though his emotional needs were not being met. Ian had suffered significant family trauma as a child. His mother physically abused him and his relationship with his father was distant. Ian felt consumed by his current relationship and haunted by past relationships, resulting in him feeling desperate and isolated.

The charity referred Ian for a psychological assessment, and he was diagnosed as having post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety. Ian then underwent a method of therapy called Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is used to alleviate experiences of trauma.

Overcoming an addiction is a long and difficult process that often requires a significant amount of willpower and self-discipline to achieve and maintain long-term sobriety. The EIC offer support to anyone on a journey of recovery.

Become a partner of EIC’s Employee Assistance Programme or take part in powerLottery today and help the charity to provide a larger support network to those who need it most.

If you or someone you know is struggling to overcome an addiction and requires support, contact the EIC support team on [email protected] or 0800 652 1618.
