Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has been awarded a contract by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind for the transport and installation of 100 V164-9.5MW wind turbines for the Moray East project off the East coast of Scotland.

The project totals 950MW and the turbine installation is scheduled to commence in the beginning of 2021. Fred. Olsen Windcarrier will deploy one of the Tern Class vessels for the project, using the Port of Invergordon, which has been selected as the pre-assembly harbour.

“The relationship between MHI Vestas Offshore Wind and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has always been very good. Fred. Olsen Windcarrier brings the right team and vessels for our jobs, and we look forward to working with them again on the Moray East project. We are confident that, with Fred. Olsen Windcarrier as our installation partner, we will have an efficient and safe installation of our wind turbines,” said Flemming Ougaard, MHI Vestas chief operations officer.

“We have been working with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind on various offshore wind projects over the last years, and during 2018 we installed more than 100 V164 turbines in the North Sea. However, the Moray East contract award is the first installation contract where Fred. Olsen Windcarrier is contracted directly by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. We look forward to delivering our precise marine operations in Scotland in 2021, supporting MHI Vestas Offshore Wind on this large project,” added Casper Toft, CCO, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.
