Humax has unveiled its new MX7 line-up of EV chargers, marking the company’s second-generation product launch in the UK, and the first to feature vehicle-to-grid technology.
According to Humax, the V2G-ready MX7 series is designed to help users optimise their EV charging costs, thanks to an integrated power line communication (PLC) module and ISO 15118 protocol. Additionally, by supporting digital communication with EVs, the MX7 can enable future-ready V2G functionality – ideal for users looking to harness off-peak energy tariffs, feed surplus energy back to the grid, and generate potential revenue over time.
By making the MX7 V2G-ready, Humax has capitalised on what is likely to be the next big trend in EV charging in the UK. myenergi, the maker of the popular Zappi EV charger, has already begun development on its first V2G charger, while Wallbox and Indra already have established models on the market. With the MX7, those looking to future proof their charging needs with V2G will have another option.
While V2G will be a great technology for future-readiness, the MX7 also has full solar compatibility, making use of surplus generation from solar systems for greener and more economical charging.
The charger has been geared predominantly at the residential market, but Humax is also targeting small businesses with the launch of the MX7. It has done this by offering simple fleet management, thanks to an Auto Charge feature that recognises vehicles and tracks charging events without needing RFID cards or mobile apps.
Jeff Kim, president of Humax, commented, “Following extensive research, we have developed the MX7 to provide both residential and business users with a combination of efficient EV charging, energy optimisation and cost reduction in one solution.
“With the growing adoption of electric vehicles and smart grid integration, and the desire for individuals and businesses to prove a positive return on their EV investment, we designed this range to ensure ultimate home energy optimisation as well as straightforward management of EV fleets – helping consumers and organisations to reduce operational costs and even generate energy revenues.
“With this launch, we continue our commitment to innovation and sustainability in the EV ecosystem, empowering users to optimise their energy consumption and costs while contributing to a greener future.”
The Humax MX7 range is set to be available from June 2025 starting at £649 inc VAT for the socket version, rising to £669 for the tethered model with a 5m cable.
