Quartzelec has delivered a £410k mechanical and electrical installation for a new centre designed to provide opportunities for local families.
In March, Quartzelec completed and handed over the M&E element of an intensive 11-week project. Working alongside the Elliott Group Limited, the main contractor, together they delivered the two‑storey, high specification, new build Bridlington Family Centre on an existing school site in Bridlington.
Part of East Riding Council’s Priority Schools Building Programme, the Bridlington Family Centre is designed to be a ‘one stop shop’ in providing opportunities for local children, young people and families, giving them access to support and advice and a range of activities. The family centre will also accommodate a day nursery that is due to open later in the year.
Quartzelec commenced its involvement on the project in the last quarter of 2018 and key project elements included delivering all above ground drainage and full sanitaryware installation, while external elements comprised aluminium powder coated rainwater pipes and louvres.
From an electrical perspective, Quartzelec also delivered an Air Source Heat Pumps solution that provides precise and efficient heating controls via a sophisticated Building Management System. Other internal work included general power plus general and emergency lighting, fire security and data installations. There was also the installation of the main LV switchboard and sub distribution network including a photovoltaic solar system to transform energy from the sun into electricity.
“This was a demanding project to work on but the whole team were up to the challenge,” stated Joe Ryan, Quartzelec’s contracts manager on this project. “Working in any educational environment always has additional considerations, but here we have helped deliver a new build that will certainly help shape the lives of many over the coming years. It’s a project we are extremely proud to have been involved in and we look forward to taking on similar works in the future.”
Bridget Bennett, service manager for early years and family support at East Riding of Yorkshire Council added: “We are committed to providing a safe, secure and supportive environment and having these new state-of-the-art facilities will certainly help us deliver on this.”
Stephen Morrison, the recently appointed managing director of Quartzelec’s contracting business, concluded: “We continue delivering some of the most demanding engineering projects and our team of highly skilled engineers constantly strive to move our business forward.
“The Bridlington Family Centre development is a welcome addition to our ever-growing portfolio of prestigious, multi-million pound, projects that we deliver each year.”
