JTL set to host SkillELECTRIC heat

Apprenticeship provider JTL has seen its Oxford training centre selected as a venue for one of the six heats of the 2019 SkillELECTRIC competition, which every year aims to search for the UK’s best young electrician.

Each year, electrical apprentices and newly qualified electricians from across the UK take part in regional heats to win a place in the competition’s grand final.

The top eight performers from these heats then compete in a two-day electrical installation challenge under the eyes of a group of industry experts ,who determine which of the finalists will win the gold medal and the title of the UK’s best young electrician. Medals are also awarded for second and third place in the competition.

SkillELECTRIC provides a platform to showcase the best young talent working in the industry and highlight the opportunities that becoming an apprentice electrician provides. SkillELECTRIC is the only industry skills competition that is aligned to WorldSkillsUK, which means that competitors who excel in the UK event have the opportunity to take part in EuroSkills and WorldSkills events across the globe.

Training providers and employers are now being encouraged to think about their best candidates to enter into the competition now the registration process has opened.

JTL’s Oxford Training Centre manager Joe Lo said, “This is a coup for us all at JTL. We’ve been here for three years and the selection of our centre for this heat says a lot about the work we have put in to provide the best training available for young people in Oxfordshire. With more than 7,000 apprentices currently at various stages of their apprenticeships with us, we’re making a considerable contribution to the sustainability of the electrotechnical sector in the UK. We’re very excited about hosting this heat and contributing to the search for the best young electrician in the UK for 2019.”
