Caterpillar has announced it has made several enhancements to its C15 ACERT and C18 ACERT generator sets, improving their overall performance and enclosure options. Rated from 410 – 700 kVA (365 – 600 kW), these enhancements to the Cat C15 and C18 diesel generator sets are suitable for prime or standby power, and are available in a wide range of configurations with optional equipment.

A number of improvements were made to the enclosures, available in either sound-attenuated or high ambient (50°C) configurations. The new enclosed models feature rear-mounted, side-by-side power and control panels and a standard, integral fuel tank base with drip tray, allowing for eight hours of run time at 100 percent prime rating. The top tank plate is now sloped to contain any accidental oil, coolant or fuel spills. An optional integral dual wall fuel tank base for total fluid containment is also available.

The new sound-attenuated models are constructed of noise-absorbent materials that further improve noise reduction, typically by 3 dBA at 1 meter (3 feet) and 7 meters (23 feet). An internal exhaust silencer system enhances generator set safety, aesthetics and silencer life.

For added protection to the enclosure, the package has been designed with an all-round, overhanging base frame. The control panel viewing window and access doors for the fuel fill and battery are lockable, improving safety and security. Finally, installation and service are made easy by oversized cable access, an oversized rear door for panel access, and purpose-designed improved dragging and jacking points in the base and an integrated lifting frame (C15 ACERT only).

“In developing this next generation of diesel generator sets, our goal was to create a compact, self-contained generator set that is easier to own and operate,” said Steve Niehaus, electric power general product manager. “At the same time, these generator sets are more efficient and durable than ever, delivering clean, dependable, economical power, even under the most demanding conditions.”

The open configuration models now feature rear-mounted, side-by-side power and control panels, and come standard with an Integral Narrow Fuel tank base with drip tray, allowing for a full, eight hour run time at 100 percent prime. A narrow skid base is an available option.

The new C15 and C18 generator sets are also fitted with the latest EMCP4 control panels, which provide enhanced performance monitoring capabilities. The EMCP4.1 and EMCP4.2 control panels are equipped with many operational and protection features.
