National Portrait Gallery installation

The award-winning Mainline track-based power distribution system has been installed in five back-of-house offices at the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Initially chosen because of the health and safety benefits it provides, eliminating the need for multiple extension cables, Mainline’s flexibility has also been valued by the National Portrait Gallery’s building services team.

Tim Knight, Building services engineer at the National Portrait Gallery, explains: “I’d read about Mainline in a trade journal and thought we could use it to not only make the power points in our offices tidier, but also to make it quicker, easier and cheaper to accommodate any future changes in office layout.”

In total approximately 20 metres of Mainline track were installed within the five offices, which can now be quickly and easily reconfigured without being restricted by the number and location of the existing power sockets.

“Fitting Mainline has been a great future-proofing solution for the offices here, and we are now also considering getting some installed in the gallery’s main reception area,” added Knight.

Suitable for use in new builds and refurbished developments, Mainline can also be installed as a retro fit in rooms where additional power outlets are required. It can be stand-alone or integrated into skirting boards, chair rails and along work surfaces.

Mainline is suitable for use in all areas – from classrooms, laboratories and manufacturing workshops, to offices, behind televisions and in the kitchen.
