The Joint Industry Board for the Electrical Contracting Industry (JIB) confirmed yesterday the Board will adopt optional arrangements to cover mechanical disciplines within the JIB Agreement.
Existing electrical arrangements will remain unchanged.
The new arrangements will be designed to offer the industry an option which reflects the JIB's view of the developing needs of the industry and those working within it.
A JIB working party, which has been established to develop the details of the agreement, will report to the Board as soon as possible.
Promulgation of the agreement will follow through the National Board. The JIB believes this approach is in the best interests of the industry.
The Electrical Contractors' Association and Unite the Union established the JIB in 1968. The National Board comprises representatives of the Association and the Union. Sir Michael Latham is the independent chairman of the JIB.
Further details of the JIB are available on its website at www.jib.org.uk.
