IET appoints new chief executive

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has announced the appointment of Nigel Fine as its new chief executive and secretary.

Fine was previously with Experian where he was managing director for EMEA and Asia Pacific. He joined Experian in 1999 as director and chief operating officer EMEA and Latin America, and was appointed global operating board director in 2003. Fine spent his early career with John Laing and International Paint, latterly as the european strategy and business development director. He joined Andersen Consulting (Accenture) in 1994 where he was associate partner and managing director for Andersen Consulting and Thames Water partnership.

Commenting on his appointment Fine said, "I am delighted to be given this opportunity to lead such a prestigious Institution. I am looking forward to working with the IET members, trustees and staff to promote the advancement of science, engineering and technology through inspiring our young professionals, raising public awareness of the contribution the profession makes for the advancement and benefit of society and supporting professional development to maintain the highest standards of performance."

Fine will take up his appointment on 8 June 2009.
