EDF Energy's transition arrangements for Bill Coley, chief executive of British Energy, to be succeeded by Dr Andrew Spurr are being put into effect. Dr Spurr is currently Chief Technical Officer of British Energy.
The transition of responsibilities will be completed through a managed succession process over the coming months.
Vincent de Rivaz, chief executive, EDF Energy, said: "A key part of the integration of EDF Energy and British Energy is related to the preparation of Bill Coley's succession. I am pleased to announce I have asked Dr Andrew Spurr to prepare himself to be the new managing director of 'existing nuclear', taking over after an appropriate handover period.
"Bill has made an outstanding contribution to British Energy since he took over as chief executive four years ago. We will have the opportunity to celebrate his achievements when he leaves the company later this year.
"Since British Energy and EDF Energy have come together within EDF Group, Bill and I have been working closely together to ensure a successful integration of our two companies. This work will continue throughout the handover period.
"I look forward to working with Andy, whose operational and technical experience make him one of this country's foremost nuclear engineers."
Coley said: "The integration process is proceeding very well and I know under Andy's leadership, the Existing Nuclear operation will play a key role in EDF Energy and in the UK's energy future."
Until the effective date of the handover, Mr Coley will continue with his current responsibilities.
