Performance, not promise, to be rewarded

Low carbon professionals, buildings and projects are to be rewarded at a new event that focuses on real, measurable improvements and progress rather than on problems and possible solutions.

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) has launched the Low Carbon Performance Awards 2008 to recognise and celebrate proven achievements in delivering carbon savings in buildings.

CIBSE has already had success with two initiatives that are helping to tackle the issue of sustainability: the Low Carbon Consultants register and the 100 Days of Carbon Clean Up campaign.

Innovation and inspiration are a key theme with the ‘innovation of the year’ category seeking to identify design or technical solutions, new technologies, new processes or other innovations that have significantly reduced or assisted the reduction of carbon emissions in buildings and which are capable of wider application. Other categories include ‘new build project of the year’, ‘refurbishment project of the year’, which will stress the potential of refurbishment to become a green opportunity and ‘client of the year’ to recognise the valuable input of clients who actively participate in projects.

The event will also celebrate the achievements of participants of the 100 Days of Carbon Clean Up campaign. With over 670 organisations signed up to the campaign, participants have a made a real contribution to reducing the amount of carbon emitted from the workplace.

The Low Carbon Performance Awards will take place on 6 February 2008 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The awards are organised by CIBSE and will be presented as part of the CIBSE Annual Dinner.
