Alstom has won an order with the Finnish company Teollisuuden Voima Oy (TVO) to supply eight low-pressure steam turbine inner blocks for Olkiluoto, a nuclear power plant in Finland.

The new steam turbine retrofit will apply technology increasing the efficiency and thereby power output of each unit with more than 25MW without any increase in thermal load. Additionally, the new steam turbine rotors will ensure prolonged reliability operation with low maintenance requirements. Alstom is also providing the new Olkiluoto 1 generator.

“This contract is a confirmation of Alstom’s focus on competitive solutions for modernisations of nuclear power plants” says Bengt Assarsson, president of Alstom Power Sweden AB.

Alstom is a long-term partner of TVO and has already provided several major modernisation solutions at the plant, including the installation of steam turbine retrofits for both low-pressure and high-pressure turbines, moisture separator reheater (MSR) and generator replacement as well as service of the main equipment.
