The future of energy storage: from research to real-world impact

Energy storage will be critical to unlocking Britain’s renewable future, according to Andrew Crossland, Head of Research & Insight at GivEnergy, who spoke at Powered On Live: The Building 2025.

During the event, Crossland highlighted how his early academic research, including his own PhD work on energy storage integration, has laid vital foundations for today’s fast-growing market.

He offered first-hand insights into how modelling 9,000 low-voltage power networks across the UK helped prove the financial benefits of a more intelligent grid, as well as the strong economic argument for subsidised storage. Crossland’s research, which anticipated the impact of residential energy storage before it went mainstream, also explored the policy considerations that have since shaped national energy strategy.
