GivEnergy reveals plans for new clean tech hub in Staffordshire

Jason Howlett, Global CEO at GivEnergy, assesses the site of the company's new clean tech hub.

GivEnergy has purchased land in North Staffordshire for a new hub aimed at supporting clean technology start-ups.

The firm, which specialises in energy storage products, is hoping to foster the next generation of entrepreneurs in the net zero technology sector, with the facility providing space for more than 10 start-up units.

The site, which is located on Parkhouse Road in Newcastle-under-Lyme, was previously disused, but GivEnergy hopes that it will facilitate the creation of several hundred new green jobs.

The firm is collaborating with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council on the new hub, with plans to offer flexible leasing terms to foster local innovation. The hub is also intended to attract investments and potentially integrate successful start-ups into GivEnergy’s supply chain.

In addition, GivEnergy is in discussions with Keele and Staffordshire Universities to encourage emerging entrepreneurs to locate in the area, aligning with the company’s broader strategy to position Newcastle-under-Lyme as a leader in green technology.

Jason Howlett, Global CEO at GivEnergy, commented, “Our acquisition of the Parkhouse Road site is a significant milestone in GivEnergy’s mission to support and nurture the next generation of clean tech innovators. By creating a dedicated hub for start-ups, we aim to accelerate the development of technologies that will play a crucial role in achieving a net zero future.

“This isn’t just an investment in property. It’s also an investment in the future of Newcastle-under-Lyme and North Staffordshire. From its pottery-led legacy, we’re committed to putting the area back on the map for world-leading industry – particularly in the critical net zero tech space.”

This venture is part of a series of investments by GivEnergy in the region, including the acquisition of a new headquarters and a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Stoke-on-Trent. More recently, the company has purchased a building adjacent to the Parkhouse Road site, previously a NatWest bank, which is planned to become a food venue.

Simon Tagg, Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, commented, “I am delighted to see GivEnergy’s continuing investment in the borough, particularly in a project that so closely aligns with the Council’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030.

“The demand for clean technology is only going to increase and this exciting investment will connect with universities and encourage business start-ups in the sector with the potential of creating hundreds of well-paid jobs in our community.”
