Why microgrids are powering more than just rural developments

Microgrids, traditionally associated with powering remote and rural areas, are proving their worth well beyond their original purpose, offering versatile and sustainable energy solutions in diverse environments.

During a recent presentation at Powered On Live, Christophe Albertus, Head of Engineering Design Department at Socomec, highlighted the evolving role of microgrids in today’s energy landscape.

Albertus emphasised that modern microgrids are not just for rural areas. They are increasingly relevant in urban and suburban settings where they support renewable energy integration, enhance resiliency, and contribute to sustainability goals. He noted that by managing energy flows efficiently, microgrids can balance loads and maximise renewable energy use, all while minimising costs.

You can watch the full presentation in the video embedded above and learn all about Albertus’ insights into microgrids and their growing importance in a world increasingly reliant on renewable energy and efficient, resilient power systems.
