char.gy has installed its 3,000th public electric vehicle charging point, with its latest charger situated in Lambeth, South London.
The company, which is dedicated to providing charging options for the 40% of British households without access to off-street parking, has been increasing the pace of its rollout. It now claims to be able to install up to 400 charging units per month.
Funding for many of char.gy’s chargers has been made available as part of the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund, which was set up in 2023 with a budget of £381 million to aid local councils until 2025. To date, over £185 million has been allocated to on-street charging initiatives across England.
char.gy says that it makes it easy for local councils wishing to install EV chargers for those without off-street parking, as it provides a comprehensive service, including infrastructure planning, installation, and maintenance of the charge points, which are designed and manufactured within the UK.
The company also offers a night saver tariff, which allows for cheaper charging rates overnight, adding an additional incentive for users.
John Lewis, CEO of char.gy, commented, “Our aim is to level the playing field for EV adoption by creating parity between drivers that have access to off-street parking and those that don’t. With the installation of our 3,000th charge point and our ambitious growth plans, char.gy is playing an ever more important role in encouraging more people to embrace EVs, and contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.”
