Options Skills launches new bootcamp to boost sustainable skills

Options Skills Electrical Skills Bootcamp

A new Electrical Skills Bootcamp, focusing on solar installation, EV installation, and energy storage systems, is hoping to boost the number of qualified professionals available to install these vital sustainable technologies.

The programme, developed by the training provider Options Skills, aligns with the UK government’s Skills for Life campaign and is backed by the Department for Education.

The bootcamp aims to provide electricians with essential training in solar photovoltaic systems, electric vehicle charge points, and electrical energy storage systems, addressing the growing demand for renewable technology skills.

Mick Fitzgerald, Director at Options Skills, emphasised the value of the programme, stating, “Our Skills Bootcamp is a unique opportunity for electricians to stay ahead in their field by mastering sustainable technologies. It’s not just a course; it’s an investment in the future of our trade and our planet.”

He further highlighted the importance of adapting to new technologies in the electrical sector:, “To thrive in the evolving landscape of electrical work, it’s crucial to adapt and expand your skill set. Our Skills Bootcamp does exactly that, preparing electricians for a future where these technologies are the norm.”

The Skills Bootcamp is designed as part of the Skills for Life initiative, offering free and flexible courses to help individuals enhance their sector-specific skills. The programme is open to candidates with an N/SVQ 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent qualifications, alongside the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification. It consists of 80 guided learning hours, blending centre-led training and webinars over a period of 6 to 8 weeks.

Initially launched at the Birmingham training centre, Options Skills plans to expand the Electrical Skills Bootcamp to Manchester and London, aiming to make the training accessible to electricians throughout the UK.
