Humax enters UK EV charger market with the solar-compatible ECORD

Humax, a company traditionally associated with digital TV recorders, has made its inaugural entry into the UK EV charging market.

Humax, a company traditionally associated with digital TV recorders, has made its inaugural entry into the UK EV charging market.

The South Korea-based company is no stranger to the automotive market, with a range of vehicle infotainment systems and automotive electronics systems already on the market, but this will be the first time the company has attempted to crack the EV charging market.

The initial offering in this new venture is the Humax ECORD 7.4kW Home Charger, aimed at residential use, although the company is eventually aiming to offer solutions for fleet and workplace charging.

According to Humax, the home charger, which can be wall-mounted or pedestal-mounted, has been designed for simplicity – from both an installation and user perspective. It operates both manually and through the Humax ECORD Mobile App.

The ECORD charger can be set up via a QR code and the mobile app, with various operational modes like RFID card swipe and plug and play. It is adaptable to individual usage patterns, offering features, such as scheduling to optimise energy costs, and is compatible with solar energy systems, enhancing its appeal to eco-conscious drivers.

Moreover, the device supports both ‘Solar’ and ‘Solar and Grid’ charging modes, similar to the myenergi Zappi, to maximise the use of renewable energy and comes with a feature to schedule charging during off-peak hours to benefit from lower energy rates.

Jeff Kim, President of Humax, commented, “The ECORD 7.4kW Home Charger is the first model in our EV charging series, confirming our commitment to sustainability and the smart home ecosystem. The EV charger range will be supported by a dedicated team of Humax customer service professionals, with a smooth installation process and outstanding post-purchase care assured by our trusted service partner.”

The Humax ECORD 7.4kW Home Charger will be made available for purchase starting March 28.
