The UK’s largest voltage optimisation project has completed

Powerdown220 has recently concluded the UK's largest voltage optimisation project for Mitchells & Butlers.

Powerdown220, a specialist in voltage optimisation, has recently concluded a landmark project, implementing VO technology across the expansive estate of Mitchells & Butlers, one of the UK’s leading pub and restaurant chains. 

According to Powerdown220, this is the largest voltage optimisation project that has ever been completed in the UK, with installations at over 1,100 locations, showcasing significant advancements in energy savings and operational efficiency.

Mitchells & Butlers, the company behind well-known brands such as Harvester and Toby Carvery, embarked on this venture to mitigate energy costs and minimise their environmental impact. 

Voltage optimisation technology will adjust the incoming voltage from the National Grid to an optimal level for business operations, thereby reducing Mitchell & Butler’s electricity consumption and costs across its estate. 

Unlike many installations, which typically are in industrial settings at a few sites, the project scope for Mitchell & Butler’s was vast. An initial survey identified 1,125 Mitchells & Butlers sites as suitable candidates for VO technology. 

After a survey, it was decided that installation would be completed at a rapid pace, with up to 60 machines deployed weekly across Mitchell & Butler’s estate. 

‘‘I didn’t realise beforehand that this would be the biggest project of its kind in the UK, but that fact puts it all into perspective,’’ reflected Dale Fenton, Energy Manager at Mitchells & Butlers.

James Goody, Director at Powerdown220, reflected on the project’s completion with pride, he commented, ‘‘We are enormously proud to have completed a project of this scale and delighted that Mitchells & Butlers placed their trust in us. 

‘‘The experience of successfully completing this rollout in such a short period of time has also provided unique opportunities for learning, which we can now carry forward.’’
