Google searches seeking information related to purchasing or installing Solar PV panels has increased by 22% year-on-year.

Solar panels have soared in popularity across the UK in the past five years, with the number of properties installing solar PV having increased by 40%.

That’s according to a new study of Government data by Logic4training, which analysed both the number of solar PV installations in the UK and solar’s contribution to the UK’s energy capacity.

An increasing number of property owners across the UK are turning to self-generation to help combat higher energy bills. In fact, with the height of the energy crisis having occurred over the past 12 months, there has been an even greater demand for solar generation – with the UK Government recording a 15% increase in the number of installations over the past year.

Additionally, solar is now generating more of the UK’s electricity, with it officially the second largest source of renewable energy after wind power. During Q1 2023, the amount generated by solar hit a brand-new record, rising year-on-year by 2.4% to a total of 4.1% of all electricity generated.

With the Government reporting a demand in the number of solar installations, Logic4training says that it has seen a similar increase in the number of Google searches and enquiries for those wanting to learn how to install solar panels.

Logic4training’s analysis of Google search data shows that online searches seeking information related to purchasing or installing Solar PV panels has increased by 22% year-on-year. Meanwhile, there has been an 18-fold uptick in the number of enquiries at Logic4training for those looking for solar PV and renewable training courses.

Mark Krull at Logic4training commented: “As the UK continues on its path to Net Zero, the rising popularity of solar PV provides an increasingly cost-effective option for homeowners and businesses looking to reduce their energy bills and cut carbon footprints. The price of solar photovoltaic hardware has come down considerably over the last ten years, which, combined with soaring electricity prices, has created the perfect storm for market growth.

“Following the rise in demand for new solar PV panel installations, we have seen unprecedented demand for our solar PV training courses, from both individual electrical installers and larger companies looking to capitalise on this lucrative and expanding marketplace.”
