Alfen to supply SSE Enterprise with EV chargers

Alfen has signed up to be SSE Enterprise’s supplier for electric vehicle charging points, under a three-year agreement between the two companies.

The agreement will see Alfen provide SSE Enterprise with smart EV charge points, such as the company’s Eve Double charging stations, which will be installed at both of SSE’s main employee bases in Perth and Reading.

Investment in EV infrastructure is being made by SSE to help get its 12,000 staff on the road to net-zero carbon emissions, as well as to convert its 3,500 strong fleet to EVs. By expanding SSE’s EV charging capacity at its offices, SSE is making a clear statement that it is committed to its low carbon ambitions and is supportive of its employees switching to electric vehicles.

The Alfen Eve Double EV charging station houses two sockets, which means multiple vehicles can charge at once. To manage the load on the grid, Alfen’s Smart Charging Network and Active Load Balancing can be integrated. This functionality allows customers to connect up to a 100 charge points on a single site and load balance across all vehicles charging. The key benefit of this solution is that charging speeds are maximised within the available local grid capacity, avoiding potentially expensive grid upgrade costs.

Kevin Welstead, EV director SSE Enterprise, said, “We are very proud to deliver further EV infrastructure which will significantly increase SSE’s capability to charge fleets and private vehicles across our estate. We want to demonstrate to other companies we can be their partner of choice when it comes to decarbonising their fleet or company cars and get SSE well on the road to net zero. Alfen is a high-quality manufacturer and a trusted partner and they form a key component to our offering to both our own fleet and those of our customers.”

Naomi Nye, sales manager at Alfen, added, “We’re really delighted to be supporting SSE Enterprise and their customers across the UK in their transition to e-mobility. From our years of experience working with other fleets in their journey to electrification across Europe, we know that reliable, intelligent chargers with adaptable technology backed up by great service are crucial to ensure drivers have an optimal experience with EVs. We look forward to supporting SSE Enterprise in their journey.”
