Red Arrow’s new ‘Discus’ has been designed and engineered to deliver energy-, labour- and cost-saving benefits for the user and installer.

LED downlights are the most advanced type of downlights available on the market today, providing the clearest and brightest lighting effect while using the lowest amount of energy. But with downlights becoming increasingly popular, contractors are often faced with labour-intensive projects that can involve lengthy ceiling cut outs, disturbing flicker, awkward fittings, complicated screw fixing and unsightly, unattractive blanking rings.

However, Red Arrow has developed a new product that has been designed to offer multiple benefits of retrofitting, energy saving, appearance, lumen output and ease of installation.

Flexible usage

Equipped with a smart, fully-adjustable mounting bracket, retaining springs and slide adjustment, Discus is designed for retrofit applications to replace recessed downlights. With the ability to fit any ceiling cut out between 65mm and 205mm, be mounted onto a suspended or monolithic ceiling, and wall mounted, it makes retrofitting a simpler task, while facilitating direct screw fixing. For electrical wholesalers, only one luminaire instead of three need to be be held in stock.

Discus offers flicker-free lighting from an integral driver with a smooth dimming option, suitable for all types of interior commercial, educational, public and domestic environments. With a chamfered, 18mm-deep profile and an optional satin silver bezel attachment, a discreet and aesthetically-pleasing appearance that complements any environment can be achieved.

Smart energy saving

In addition to an 18W dimmable version, the range also includes a wattage selectable option with a discreet switch that can set the wattage to 10W, 15W or 18W. As well as saving energy, this switch can adjust the lumen output too, so the same luminaire can be used in any application. From corridors and waiting rooms to public WCs, the Discus prevents over lighting and wasted energy.

Some of the Discus range also have an integral PIR motion sensor with photocell override. Ideal for stairwells, corridors and storage rooms, this ensures that it only turns on when an area is occupied and turns off after a short time delay. For places with ample daylight, the photocell override ensures that Discus only turns on when the area is occupied, without enough natural light.
