JTL has named Halifax-based William Forsyth as its Electrical Apprentice of the Year for the Yorkshire and North East region.
Following a successful apprenticeship with local firm J&R Electrical (Halifax) LTD through Kirklees College, William’s victory was announced at a celebratory event at the Royal Armouries Leeds, on Thursday 13 February, where he was presented with a £100 cheque and glass trophy. William, who was recognised by his training officer for his progress both academically and practically, has now been shortlisted to represent Yorkshire and the North East against seven other regional electrical winners at JTL’s National Awards, which will take place in London on 2 June.
JTL electrical training officer, Sam Shimmin, said, ‘’I have had nothing but positive interactions with Will as a learner throughout his time at JTL and from our first encounter he was very quickly identified as a front runner in his class for both academic success, and for going that extra mile as an apprentice.
‘’He’s a natural leader on-site and has proven himself as a calm and confident worker who will always take control over situations and follow all health and safety procedures correctly. It’s been a pleasure to support Will during this early stage of his career’.’
William, who currently holds an EAL Electrotechnical Certificate NVQ Level 3, said, ‘’I am so pleased to just have been nominated, and to have all of the hard work I have put in over the last four years recognised, but to win the award is incredible. It’s been a pleasure to work alongside my fellow apprentices at Kirklees College, and the skills I’ve acquired have really set me up in my career as an electrician. From a young age I was confident an apprenticeship was more suited to me, so now I couldn’t be more excited for the National Awards!’’.
The award scheme – which is now in its fifth year – sees each candidate assessed against four key elements which make up the apprenticeship framework – their practical work onsite, theoretical knowledge, key skills and industrial test scores.
