MP John Stevenson recently took a tour of JTL’s newly opened electrical training centre in Carlisle and met second-year apprentices.

The Carlisle centre, based on Lancaster Street, was opened in June this year by the Mayor of Carlisle, Councillor Marilyn Bowman. It has been designed with a brand new and fully equipped electrical workshop, which offers training to electrical apprentices in the Carlisle and wider Cumbria area.

John Stevenson, a longstanding supporter and advocate of business and education, was joined by local ECA branch chair, Murray Gibson, and employers from the community, and given a tour of the new training centre, hearing of the development and investment that had been involved. Meeting the training officers and second-year electrical apprentices, the MP also took part in a Q&A session that discussed a broad range of topics including local developments and BREXIT.

John Cramphorn, JTL regional business manager, said, “We are delighted to have welcomed John Stevenson MP to the Carlisle centre and showcase our new electrical training centre. It was fantastic to hear John discuss future developments in Carlisle and how the electrical centre would be an important factor in this, highlighting everything from environmental technologies to electric cars.

“It was great to share the day with local employers too, as we believe it’s crucial to work collaboratively with these businesses. We want to ensure that we are developing the training opportunities at the centre to reflect the skills and attitudes that these employees deem as important, as we develop their future employees.”
