More than 400 electricians attended Epsom Downs Racecourse for NICEIC and ELECSA’s Live South event.

With a growing demand for future technology and smart homes, contractors were given exclusive access to a variety of technical seminars and breakout sessions from some of the nation’s leading electrical experts.

Electric vehicle advocate and founder of Electric Vehicles Outlook Ltd Roger Atkins kicked off the show with a presentation on the electric vehicle revolution occurring across the globe.

He discussed the car industry’s shift from the traditional combustion engine to new cleaner energy, and how technology now made it more viable for manufacturers to survive financially in the EV market. He also pointed to the need for extra EV charging points and the opportunities that exist for electricians in this area.

“The switch to electricity for lots of things is epic,” commented Roger. “The advancement of technology means we can now match eco with economic and we are just at the start of a renewable revolution.

“Electricians with the right skills are in a good position to benefit over the next 15-20 years and will play a crucial role in delivering this revolution.”

Other speakers on the day included technical experts from the NICEIC and ELECSA including Darren Staniforth, John O’Neill and Tim Benstead, who discussed the 18th Edition and took questions from the audience.

This year’s event was CPD accredited for the first time, meaning attendees could use their learnings from the day as part of their on-going professional development.

Kevan Parker, managing director for NICEIC and ELECSA added: “Live South is a great opportunity for us to get out and meet contractors and discuss what is going on in the industry today.

“Seeing the room packed with more than 400 electricians demonstrates to me the dedication NICEIC and ELECSA contractors place on keeping their professional knowledge updated.”

The shift energy efficiency and smart technology provides contractors with a wealth of opportunities and it is important we provide the relevant information so they can make informed decisions about where to take their business.”
