Green lit all the way

Lighting control specialist Lutron has announced its support for the European Commission’s Level(s) Initiative. 

Lutron’s support will help shape lighting requirements in order to make building performance greener, in a bid to improve the sustainability of commercial and residential buildings.

Level(s) provides a set of indicators and common metrics for measuring the performance of buildings along their life cycle. 

The initiative was first introduced in August 2017 by the European Commission (DG Environment) and is currently in development as a common EU framework of core indicators for the sustainability of office and residential buildings.

Level(s) goes beyond just energy, materials and water savings, to include key aspects of building performance, including health and comfort, climate change, and life cycle cost and value.

Lutron’s ambition with Level(s) is to help shape lighting requirements as a critical aspect of green buildings’ performance, leveraging the company’s innovative lighting and blinds control technologies.

David Ribbons, senior sales director Europe and Africa at Lutron Electronics declared, “Lutron’s values align well with the Level(s) initiative. As a global leader in lighting and blinds control, it is both our pleasure and our passion to participate. 

“We are looking forward to working with the European Commission and key project stakeholders to develop real-world trials and case studies that will help develop new Level(s) indicators for the lighting of green buildings in the Circular Economy.”

The World Green Building Council also embraces Level(s). They stated, “Our ‘Better Places for People’ global project is focused on creating a world in which buildings are not only good for the environment, but also support healthier, happier and more productive lives.” 

Similarly, Lutron believes in the consideration of the environment in design, construction and operation of its solutions. Lutron’s ultimate goal is to enhance the health, happiness, and productivity for its customers in the places where they live, work, learn, heal, and play.

Ribbons added, “Our involvement with Level(s) will allow us to demonstrate the benefits of our products in the pursuit of energy efficiency, sustainability, building productivity, and the health and well-being of building occupants.
