Lighting giant renews BAFE certification

UK giant Tamlite Lighting has renewed its British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE) certification for the design of emergency lighting systems, following what the company has described a ‘robust and intensive audit process’.

BAFE is the independent registration body for third party certified fire protection companies across the UK and maintains a national, independent register of quality fire safety service providers. The organisation develops schemes to support quality standards for fire protection companies to achieve and become third party certified. This provides reassurance for businesses which need fire protection services for their premises, that the companies they contract to provide them meet all the appropriate standards and are independently audited.

The recently completed six-hour audit process interrogated the qualifications of Tamlite’s designers, ensuring they have the relevant ICEL (Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting) qualifications. The correct structure and processes in the design department have to be in place and products manufactured within emergency lighting luminaire standards must be specified.

Stephen Biggs, Technical Manager at Tamlite commented: “This is very satisfying for Tamlite Lighting’s technical department and gives our customers confidence that our design specification processes have been independently verified and meet the high standards of safety required for emergency lighting systems.”

Tamlite’s accreditation means that it is registered to BAFE’s Emergency Lighting Systems SP203-4 scheme, in the system design area. Tamlite works in conjunction with companies that have BAFE Certification for installation and commissioning, supplying relevant designs to the specification and stringent requirements of businesses and public-sector bodies across the UK, including the Ministry of Defence.
