The first Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI) certification for the Royal Corps of Signals was awarded in May, at the regiment’s base camp in Blandford, UK.
The certification, which is supported by the network infrastructure sector across the UK and Ireland, including manufacturers, installation companies and industry associations, is recognised as the ‘must-have’ certification to achieve quality of installation in an otherwise unregulated sector. It is the only standardised certification for the sector which is now being specified within tender documentation for cable installation teams working on new builds and refurbishments.
The Royal Corps of Signals are considered leaders in IT and Communications for the British Army. The corps entered a collaborative agreement last year with CNet to deliver the level 3 CNCI programme to their installation technicians as part of their on-going education curriculum. Those who have successfully completed the programme, have obtained the official CNCI certification and are able to demonstrate the highest levels of knowledge, skills and expertise in copper and fibre optic cable installation.
