The event which focuses on the data centre industry in Ireland, took place earlier this week.
In its sixth year DataCentres Ireland 2017 was the largest ever with more than 60 industry experts sharing their insights and 75 exhibitors sharing their wares, all drawn from within the country and around the world.

The Founder and president of Host in Ireland, Garry Connolly opened the conference side of the event with a discussion providing an overview of future developments that are set to push opportunities in Ireland with global growth in data generation.

“Contrary to what some may think, today is not about the speakers – it’s about you. This event is all about meeting people and creating new business, so talk to the people around you,” Connolly says.

Connolly says Dublin and Ireland as a whole, is poised to take advantage of the data age, with its main competitors including Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris and some of the Nordics. The conference delved into a host of issues surrounding the industry both nationally and abroad, it provided opportunities to hear and discuss the latest in new ideas, legislation, technology and best practices that benefited both attendees and their businesses.

The first day of DataCentres Ireland had a sophisticated line-up of speakers, including managing director of Subsea Networks and advisor to the Senior Leadership Team at Aqua Comms, Jol Paling.

Paling discussed the current connectivity solutions from Europe to North America, including how capacity and technology evolved over time and how new cable systems will continue to innovate to keep pace with future demand.

The conference also included Ireland’s Minister for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection, Pat Breen. He took to the stage for a much anticipated keynote address.

Breen spoke about Ireland’s journey through the digital economy and shared his dream of the country becoming the ‘best in class’ in the domain of data centres – of which he believes will happen in the very near future.

On day two, the event brought together leading public sector figures to discuss driving innovation and efficiency in digital infrastructure in some of Europe’s leading case studies based in Ireland with the 12 EURECA workshop chaired by Dr Rabih Bashroush Coordinator of the European Commission EURECA Project. Also taking place was the GDPR Conference, chaired by Dr Dennis Jennings Internet Pioneer, Internet Hall of Fame 2014 & Co. Chair GDPR Awareness Coalition.

This hybrid conference and exhibition which is your guide to data centre strategy, offering a chance to experience the latest in industry solutions, best practice and insights from industry leaders will be back next year, so keep a space in your diary, 20 – 21 November 2018.
