Lakehouse, an asset and energy support services group, has awarded REL Electrical a £1.1million design-and-build mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contract.

The appointment will see REL deliver the work at a new 25,000 sq ft extension at AXA Healthcare’s head office in Tunbridge Wells. Spread over three floors, the £5m project will include open-plan office space and 360 workstations for employees.

REL will be onsite for six months and responsible for all of the M&E, including installing fire, security and access control systems. The building, known as International House, is being built to a Breeam Very Good rating, so REL will also source and install an air to water heat pump, to absorb heat from the outside air to feed the radiators.

Toby Buckley, managing director at REL said: “A key part of our role is to ensure it is as energy efficient as possible, which in addition to the air source to water heat pumps, includes installing a Building Management System (BMS) that will enable all mechanical and electrical equipment such as the fire and security systems to be computer controlled and monitored.”
