The recent announcement Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool City Council has signed a charter with Unite the Union, UCATT and GMB to promote better conditions for construction workers across the city has been well received by the Joint Industry Board (JIB).
Under the Liverpool Construction Charter, any electrical contractor working in Liverpool must be a member of the Electrical JIB employing all electrical workers under the terms and conditions set out in the JIB’s National Working Rules.
Signed on 10 September 2015, the Charter is designed to promote employment under national collective agreements, including the JIB National Working Rules and to stamp out bogus self-employment on all construction sites within the city limits.
It will provide a boost to current JIB members who, through their membership, can demonstrate their adherence to the National Working Rules. It will provide the opportunity for them to win contracts on a level playing field by excluding contractors utilising sub-JIB terms and conditions of employment and hopefully encourage more electrical contractors to join the JIB.
Steve Brawley, chief executive of the JIB said, “The inclusion of the JIB National Working Rules in the Charter is an extremely positive development. It is also great news for JIB member companies who work in Liverpool or wish to do so in the future.”
