A project to upgrade lighting in the gallery spaces at the National Portrait Gallery has made full use of Lumicom’s luminaire disposal services to ensure that all end-of-life fixtures were disposed of responsibly.
The project involved replacement of 100W tungsten halogen spotlights with low energy Erco LED fixtures ranging in wattage from 12W to 14W, thereby greatly reducing the installed electrical load, associated energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Erco-managing director Chris Tiernan commented: “The National Portrait Gallery has a strong commitment to sustainability and is continually looking for opportunities to reduce environmental impact. As we are members of Lumicom, the ability to take advantage of this service has added to the ‘green’ credentials of the project, beyond the energy savings achieved.”
