Production plant protected from emergency stops

Global uninterruptible power supply supplier Zigor has met the power requirements of a hydrogen production plant in Catalonia, Spain.

The factory, owned by Air Products Group – a worldwide supplier of industrial gases and equipment – supplies one of the most important oil refineries in Spain with hydrogen 365 days of the year.

The plant is directly powered by a transport line but they were still suffering voltage dips of up to 50% due to the heavy-duty motors at the refinery as well as occasional summer storms.

To help solve this problem and supply all of Air Products Group’s power needs, Zigor equipped the plant, which has two feeders, with a medium voltage transformer of 2.1 MW 6.6 kV and included medium voltage motors at 6.6 kV to protect the hydrogen generation process.

Zigor also installed a medium voltage SET DVR of 2.4 MW nominal power which provide a stable voltage of 6.6kV (± 1%) even if voltage dips drop the 40 per cent of nominal voltage value.
