Rapid lighting control

Electrical Review Logo

CP Electronics has supplied its Rapid Lighting Control System to the newly refurbished RNAS Culdrose site on the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall. The system was specified by contractors MITIE Engineering Services because of its ability to provide a flexible system that allows the end user to easily configure the lighting controls to suit their own needs.

Supplied by local wholesalers Edmundson, the fully addressable Rapid System, along with CP’s Vitesse Modular system, has been used in all new office areas in addition to sleeping accommodation, crew rooms and dining facilities throughout the site.

Although the previous fluorescent lighting was manually controlled, the new PIR controlled system now allows the new T5 fluorescent luminaires to be switched on automatically when presence is detected or, when areas are vacated, to time out after a certain period which is pre-programmed. As a large proportion of the front offices are close to the landing area, all lighting adjacent to the airfield can be dimmed to 50% during the hours of darkness to reduce the glare for pilots.
