Independent wholesaler SP Lamps has signed an agreement with specialist recycling scheme Recolight to provide collection facilities for the public and local businesses to recycle their waste lighting for free.

The collection facility at SP Lamps on Council Street West is located in the centre of Llandudno, and is the first collection point in the area to offer this service.

Known as ‘lamps’ in the industry, old fluorescent tubes and some other forms of commercial lighting fall under the WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) Regulations. In accordance with the law, they need to be recycled at end- of-life, as large quantities can be harmful to the environment if sent to landfill.

Peter Williams, owner of SP Lamps, said: “Llandudno is home to many hotels and other businesses that have a strong green ethic – our free collection point provides an easy and convenient place, in the centre of town, where people can dispose of their old lamps in a sustainable way. SP Lamps offers the convenient one stop solution to dispose and renew.”

Nigel Harvey, Recolight chief executive said: “Recolight is committed to making it as easy as possible for businesses and the public to recycle, and to raise awareness of the importance of doing so. SP Lamps joins our network of over 1,000 collection points across the country, and brings much needed extra recycling facilities to North Wales.”
