Low energy lighting for Royal Free Hospital

Electrical Review Logo

Major refurbishment of the Royal Free Hospital’s entrance building has included extensive LED lighting from Holophane, along with Atlanta luminaires using compact fluorescent light sources.

The area leading to the hospital entrance comprises a circular canopy, low canopy and high canopy. The lighting solution for these areas, designed by The Richard Stevens Partnership, includes Holophane’s LLED (Linear LED) fittings, using Luxeon high power LED light sources from Lumileds.

Because of their superior light output and lumen maintenance, compared to traditional 5mm LEDs, this solution enabled required lighting levels and distribution to be met with a minimum 0mperature of 5000K and 6 degree beam angle.

A key element of Holophane being specified for the project was the company’s ability to provide accurate photometry for its LED fittings.
