Power transformers are critical, capital-intensive assets for utilities and industry. Their failure is unacceptable because, as well as the severe damage which can occur to the asset itself the effect of its failure on the network can be disastrous. However, replacing on a time basis is not the alternative since replacement costs for these assets can be enormous and so it is important to keep the transformer in service as long as possible.
Therefore, testing to assess the health of power transformers and to diagnose problems is of the utmost importance to ensure the long-term and safe operation of these very expensive power assets.
With the CPC 100, power transformers and their ancillary components can be tested including:
• Windings
• Tap changer
• Bushings
• Insulation
• Core
• Connection leads
• Surge arrestors
The powerful testing device provides up to 800 A or 2 kV (2 kA or 12 kV using external accessories) with up to 5 kVA over a frequency range of 15 to 400 Hz or 400 A DC. Its compact design (29 kg / 64 lbs) makes it easy to transport and ideal for on-site testing.
Due to its multifunctionality, the patented CPC 100 test system replaces numerous individual testing devices. Using the CPC 100, many parameters on power transformers can be measured:
• Capacitance and power / dissipation factor
• Ratio and excitation (no-load) current
• DC winding resistance and on-load tap changer (OLTC)
• ratio and winding resistance of all taps and all phases (automatically)
• Short circuit impedance / leakage reactance
• Frequency response of stray losses
During the testing process the CPC 100 PC software supports the user’s workflow step-by-step. The user is able to define and manage test objects, create test plans, perform measurements, and generate reports, while being guided through the test process. This ensures testing according to the industry standards, while saving time and reducing the risk of errors.
All these advantages make testing with the CPC 100 a time-saving and cost-effective alternative to conventional testing methods.
