New national campaign launches to put solar in the spotlight

A new campaign designed to educate and inspire UK homeowners to adopt solar technology has launched today. The Our Solar Britain initiative has unveiled a new website, oursolarbritain.co.uk, which will provide a range of resources, as well as social media profiles designed to provide accessible advice and respond to questions directly. The campaign is supported by four of the biggest solar brands in the UK: Wagner Solar, Sanyo, ET Solar and SMA Solar Technology.

One of the primary features of Our Solar Britain is a solar calculator that allows users to quickly determine the potential of a solar energy system using typical house sizes. By simply selecting location and type of house, a user will be given a benchmark for the estimated amount of energy that could be produced each year through the installation of solar panels, together with possible earnings from the government subsidy scheme.

Kamil Shah of Wagner Solar, one of the backers of the project commented: “Our Solar Britain is a call to arms for UK homeowners, designed not only to educate and inform everyone about how solar works, but also about the incentives for adopting it – both ethical and financial.”

“There is just not enough easily accessible information around for those considering solar and other renewable technologies – Our Solar Britain is a direct response to this.”

Alongside the calculator, the website aims to provide information for homeowners on both the environmental reasons to install solar panels alongside the financial argument. The Feed in Tariff (FiT), the government incentive scheme for the adoption of renewables, is explained in detail and a forecast of major environmental milestones that will arise over the next 20 years can also be found.

Twitter and Facebook profiles will provide direct points of contact for homeowners and businesses looking for more information about installing solar on their homes and offices, with questions directed to a myriad of experts from the organisations supporting the campaign.
