Data centre design and build specialist, Sudlows, has won a multi-million pound contract to build a data centre facility for the new Co-operative Headquarters in Manchester.
With a strong commitment to staying carbon neutral, the data centre will serve the one of the UK's largest mutual retailers at its dedicated city centre HQ as it continues to push forward with their green policy.
The new facility will incorporate the latest EDRUPS Flywheel UPS technology.
This influential investment into resourceful energy savings methods, complements the Co-operative Group's new flag ship headquarters and acts as a practical demonstration of the Group's commitment to staying green.
The 4MVA data centre will be designed to operate at Tier 3.
Led by Andy Hirst, specialist projects director at Sudlows, the mission-critical project will be operational by Summer 2011.
Andy Hirst said: "The Co-operative is a leading business tackling sustainability and climate change, and the new data centre facility will be no different. As Sudlows, too, is an environmentally aware organisation, we will be incorporating a variety of the world's leading edge, energy-efficient technologies for a robust design.
"For Sudlows, securing this significant project will play a key role in furthering the success of our rapidly expanding business. We have taken the time to completely understand the Co-operative Group's requirements and are delighted to again be supporting them throughout this exciting, crucial operation."
Colin Bennett, head of change and delivery at the Co-operative Group, commented: "The design team's solution offers low PUE aspirations and high tier levels to provide the Co-operative Group with increased efficiencies in system operation, redundancy, modularity and delivery to the project programme. This reduces the carbon footprint of the project not only in operation but also in construction."
