ABB wins control and safety project for Jasmine gas field

ABB has won a contract from ConocoPhillips to supply an integrated process control and safety system for a new wellhead platform in the company's Jasmine gas field in the North Sea. Additional contracts will see ABB enhance existing network and operating systems on the company's Judy installation.

The Jasmine development will comprise a 24-slot wellhead platform with bridge-linked accommodation. The wellhead platform will be connected to the Judy platform via a multiphase pipeline to a new riser platform connected to the existing Judy platform via a bridge.

ABB will provide its System 800xA process control solution for Jasmine, with remote and locally mounted I/O units located around the platform, allowing space savings while also cutting cabling requirements. The 800xA system will be used to integrate third party packages, including fire and gas detectors and metering packages, allowing the customer to operate these facilities from a single location.

The project will allow Judy to continue as the operational centre for the field, while also allowing local control facilities at the Jasmine Wellhead Platform and Living Quarters.

800xA also allows ConocoPhillips' engineering contractors to access ABB's engineering data during the design stages, ensuring that changes and developments can be tracked and integrated during the project's lifetime.
