Figures released by City & Guilds suggest electrical courses are the most popular with students, ahead of social care and hairdressing. At the same time, recent research from trade only supplier, Electricfix, highlights how these new electrical apprentices have a desire to achieve the highest standards.
Electricfix's research among apprentices in the trade revealed almost three quarters of young electricians believe completing work to a high standard is the most important part of their occupation.
While nearly a third of electrical apprentices entered the profession because of the good opportunities it offers, 93% hope to undertake further training during their career.
When prompted to look 10 years into the future, the majority of young electricians (68%) said they looked forward to being their own boss and running their own company. Nearly three quarters of apprentices hope to achieve this by continuing to work with their current employer once qualified to gain necessary experience before starting out on their own.
John Mewett, marketing director for Electricfix, comments on the findings: "It's great to see electrical courses are so popular as apprentices are the lifeblood of the trade and judging by the feedback we received, the trade has a bright future.
"Our research has clearly shown the pride that apprentices take in their work and we're committed to support them in maintaining these high standards in any way we can throughout their careers."
