Electrical supply for RTG cranes

Electrical Review Logo

In container ports and holding terminals around the world, rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes are employed for handling standard containers. The cranes are designed for continuous operation at high handling rates, providing dense container stacking and offering high selectivity.

However, continually rising diesel prices and mounting environmental pressure against noise and pollution have combined to make temporary conversion from diesel drive to electric power an attractive capability.  Meeting all the requirements to supply the RTG crane with both power and data, in a safe manner that's also almost maintenance-free, is the innovatively-designed igus E-Rover.

E-Rover is suitable for long travels, usually of 800 m but it is possible for it to be more, with compensation of lateral offsets to within ±400mm or according to customer specifications. The data transfer is interference-free and can be used with the full range of igus bus cables or for higher speeds igus fibre optic cables are also available.

As you can see in the video, the igus E-Rover is unique in that it can carry different media (power, data, fluids, etc.) easily together in one single system. As with all igus® systems, the E-Rover is almost maintenance-free and can be used even in the harshest environmental conditions.
