Continued success at MediaCity UK

KNX UK Association member EnTech (Energy Technologies), based in Bredbury, has continued its success at the prestigious MediaCityUK development in Salford Quays. This installation is the KNX UK Association Installation of the Year 2009.

Originally awarded the contract by NG Bailey, the MediaCity project initially required EnTech to design and commission a KNX intelligent building solution for the three BBC Buildings within the development. This will give the BBC full control over the lighting throughout the three buildings, offering significant savings on costs and energy. Now, EnTech has been awarded the maintenance contract for Building C which was completed and handed over in September 2009.

Awarded by Cofely (GDF Suez), the contract involves remote monitoring, error reporting and a preventative maintenance plan to ensure the system is in the same state as it was on practical completion. The maintenance contract runs over an 18 month period from March 2010 until August 2011.

EnTech's expertise has prompted development principals Peel Holdings and Bovis to make the decision to move forward with KNX throughout MediaCity, which will ultimately become a true networked city, the first of its kind in the UK.

EnTech has secured the contract for the Studio Building, awarded by Rotary North West. They will provide the Studio Building with KNX presence/constant daylight control giving the ability to control all lights from a central location. Automated emergency light testing, system administration reporting and interfacing to other building services. are also included. When complete the Studio Building will house one of the largest high definition studio facilities in Europe.

The contract to design and commission the lighting control to the North and South Studio Building Towers at MediaCity UK has also been awarded to EnTech by Rotary North West. Work on the two towers, one of which will house BBC offices and one will be a Holiday Inn, is to be completed this year.

A further contract covers the installation of the control element of the DMX specialist lighting supplied and installed by Piggott and Whitfield. With the incorporation of wireless and fibre technology, this will allow the lighting for the whole site to be controlled from one central point.

Based in Bredbury, EnTech is the youngest member of the IBT Group. Since their inception in March 2007, the company has more than doubled its staff numbers and recruited a trained KNX Engineer from Hungary to help further their development and success.
