PCB headers offer high contact density in compact housing

Electrical Review Logo

The innovative 8513 range of PCB headers from Wieland Electric has been designed to offer a particularly high contact density inside a compact housing. As PC boards decrease in size and the number of contact points per surface continues to grow, the limited size and electrical installation conditions of PCB terminals reduces the contacting options. In response to market demands, Wieland has engineered the new 8513 Headers & plugs to allow users to connect wires with cross sections of up to 1.5mm².

Part of the wiecon range, Wieland's new two-tier and three-tier PCB headers are available in 2 – 16 poles per tier, in straight or angled versions and with or without locking flanges for mating connectors. The three-tier option, wiecon 8513 SDGN, has a maximum of 48 poles for the connection of 1.5mm² wires, whilst the wiecon two-tier 8513 SEGN will provide up to 32 poles. The wiecon 8513 BS mating plug connectors are equipped with push-in technology for fast wiring without the need for tools.

Wielands wiecon PCB headers are temperature resistant and infinitely suitable for the lead-free THR (through-hole reflow) soldering process used in SMT technology. Due to their highly accurate spacing, the headers can be fitted automatically, even when both sides of the PC board are utilised. Another benefit is the PPA (polyphthalamide) material which shows a high tracking resistance with a CTI value of over 600. The angled PCB headers have been specifically designed for connecting field devices or controllers in automation technology.
